About Karen Chiam

I am passionate about building a career that can improve public health and patients outcomes. I also enjoy communicating science to people and working with like minded people from different backgrounds. My expertise is in oncology. I am experienced in both research in the laboratory and clinical field that involves specific molecular techniques, next generation sequencing, patients sample collection, data management, cohort design and survival analysis. My specialty is in cancer biomarkers and therapeutics area, particularly for prostate and oesophageal cancer. Currently, I am working in public health research to improve how we can better prevent, diagnose, treat and care for cancer patients. And most importantly, producing research/ outputs that can help drive policy changes to improve clinical practice and patients' outcomes. Examples of my current research focus includes policy and evidence evaluation, cancer epidemiological studies including the use of large population linked and cancer registry datasets. I am experienced in working with experts from multiple disciplines. This includes researchers from a wide variety of fields, clinicians, pathologists, nurses, industry-related personnel, non-profitable organizations as well as consumers including patients themselves. I am also experienced in project management and stakeholders relationships management. I enjoy problem solving and the ability to communicate with people from different backgrounds.
