About Karen Crozer

Dr. Karen Crozer is an expert in creative writing, faculty development, and online pedagogy. She serves as Chair of English, Communication Studies, and Journalism at L.A. Mission College (LAMC), overseeing curriculum innovation, faculty training, and interdisciplinary initiatives. As a Co-Investigator on the $1.5M PAIRR AI Grant supported by Learning Lab and UC Davis, she will facilitate research in AI-assisted peer review, faculty AI literacy, and student writing success. She is also the OERI Lead for English in the state of California. Dr. Crozer is an advisor for GPTZero and was selected by to participate in the AI 4 Learning Network (AI4LN) Pilot, shaping AI policy and faculty training initiatives. She also participated in the September Playlab AI Cohort and consults on AI pedagogy for higher education, focusing on ethical AI use, instructional design, and academic integrity. She was also selected as an AI Changemaker by the California Community Colleges Chancellor's Office.A former Distance Education Specialist for the Los Angeles Community College District (2020-2022), she has trained faculty in AI literacy, accessibility, and instructional technology. She has led district-wide and state-wide workshops and online courses on Creating Accessible Content, Teaching in Zoom, AI in Higher Education, and Online Pedagogy. She has completed 400+ hours of training with the Online Network of Educators, earning their Online Teaching & Learning Certificate.Beyond AI, Dr. Crozer is committed to curriculum innovation and faculty professional development. She developed Creative Writing, Journalism, and Social Media Strategy certificates at LAMC and co-chairs the LACCD English Discipline Committee, supporting faculty across the district. She has also published books on captioning and poetry and has led trainings on document accessibility and captioning for CVC-OEI webinars.In addition, Dr. Crozer is a nonprofit leader and advocate for educational equity. She serves as Director of Development at STAR Inc, a 501(c)3 organization supporting expanded learning opportunities. She was selected as a 2021 New Leaders Council Fellow and has partnered with GEAR UP and Upward Bound programs to support first-generation college students.Her work centers on creative writing, faculty development, open education, and ZTC (zero textbook cost) pathways.
