About Karen Eagle

I have worked for the National Weather Service (NWS) for over 20 years serving the vast majority of the time at the Aviation Weather Center (AWC) in Kansas City. I transitioned into management at the Center Weather Service Unit (CWSU) in Longmont, CO. as a Meteorologist in Charge (MIC) then accepted two temporary details at Central Region Headquarters (CRH) and the Performance Culture, & Learning Branch before becoming a Lead Meteorologist at the WFO in Duluth, MN. Accomplishments: Program management/innovative thinking and results: I developed a concept of a new student program for the NWS. The SCOuT (Student Career On-site Training) Program allows students to visit multiple offices during a semester of school. The program has been well received with senior leadership to where I am now expanding the program to include 8 universities across the country. The SCOuT Program has given me the opportunity to collaborate with NWS employees and our academic partners all across the country. https://sites.google.com/view/student-career-onsite-training/ Excelled in a collaborative team environment: I co-led the communications effort for L·A·N·T·E·R·N (Leveraging Abilities, Needs, Talents, Energies and Resources Network) by creating a communications plan for the launch of the redeveloped NRAP program. Accomplishments include leading a team through new communication developments for the advertisement of L·A·N·T·E·R·N, creating a new Google site for L·A·N·T·E·R·N and leading sub meetings to ensure a successful launch of L·A·N·T·E·R·N. Experience in leading teams and building relationships: Co-led of the Aviation Weather-Ready Nation (AWRN) team by developing new ideas to help create a WRN throughout the aviation community. Successfully led 3 sub teams to increase ambassador growth through recruitment, producing the quarterly newsletter and developed a social media campaign collaborating with the FAA, NTSB and the AWC to bring awareness to aviation partners. Team player: An invited member of the National Career Retention for Women Tiger Team. Members create innovative ways to support women throughout their career with mentoring/coaching, succession planning and career ladder options. D&I: Women of NOAA (WON) Employee Resource Group (ERG) Committee member; 2022 Subcommittee member: Internal/External Communications, development and planning activities of the Women’s Equality Day Co-Chair: ERG Liaison: Learn, network, and collaborate with other ERGs to increase awareness and advocate together to provide confidence, encouragement, and support.
