About Karen Edwards

I am a Director at BDO LLP's London office, with over 25 years of post-qualification accountancy experience. For the past 17 years, I have specialised in forensic accounting. My expertise is within investigations, litigation support, and expert witness work. Over the years, I have handled fraud and financial investigations, SPA disputes, and expert witness determinations. I work closely with solicitors and barristers to deliver results. I have led international investigations in the USA, Switzerland, and the Caribbean, attending court and depositions in these regions. I also design and deliver anti-fraud and fraud awareness training to statutory auditors across various sectors. I am a key contact within BDO for fraud investigation matters, assisting audit teams with fraud risk identification, assessment, audit response design, and investigations when fraud is suspected or identified. I not only resolve high-profile disputes but also enhance internal policies and advise on risk mitigation strategies. I am one of the founders and developer of the firm's specialist audit support services team which covers a wide portfolio of audited entities in both the UK and the USA and within a wide variety of industry sectors. This includes, the implementation and drafting of policies and planning strategic goals and objectives. As part of business development, I organise the delivery of the annual Fraud Track and Fraud Survey and draft thought leadership articles. As a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, a Certified Fraud Examiner, and a Cardiff Law School Certified Expert Witness (Civil), I am committed to upholding the integrity of financial systems and empowering our clients through meticulous investigations and strategic insights.
