About Karen Hoffa

Karen is an adaptable, resilient, versatile and sustainability inspired business professional with 25 years international, cross sector experience across organisations including multinationals and start-ups. Karen has returned to Cape Town from London - by cargo ship - to use her experience and capabilities to continue making a meaningful impact in environmental sustainability and work towards a Just Transition in South Africa. Before leaving London, Karen worked for Chapter Zero, the directors climate forum. There she developed, managed and promoted the climate programme of events, tools and resources, equipping non-executive directors to lead boardroom discussions on the impacts of climate change. Karen has a Master’s degree in Sustainable Development which deepened her knowledge and facilitated a transition into a full-time career in environmental work. Prior to doing her MSc, Karen was a Finance Manager at Tideway, the company delivering London's super-sewer and reconnecting London with the River Thames, setting up many of their financial reporting processes. During her career Karen has worked with BP/Castrol on the roll out of a global IT project and on their Euro2012 and FIFA World Cup Sponsorship Programmes in South Africa and Brazil. Karen has also project managed a successful proposal for EU funding with a consortium of international scientists and worked as a forensic consultant for Deloitte. Alongside work, Karen has led and participated in numerous community and environmental volunteer projects in South Africa and the UK.
