Background
About Karen Pillay
My qualification as a Company Secretary and Governance Practitioner speaks volumes about my ethics and values. While Corporate Governance is my priority my career path took me on a wonderful journey that taught me not only life skills but life's most important lessons and work ethics in both the Private and Public sectors working for listed companies, NPOs and International NGOs. I started off as what was known as a Girl Friday / general administrator. I studied and worked my way up step by step into Senior Management roles from Admin Manager to Grants and Contracts Management, Business Development and Director of Resource Mobilisation. I am a versatile professional whose past career choices demonstrates my passion and expertise in Community and humanitarian development services, fundraising and resource mobilisation, grants management, gender justice, children's rights, humanitarian rights, youth development, and social challenges. I have conceptualized, implemented and managed development programmes across the development sector. Having written press releases, articles, worked with agencies to develop documentary films, planned and implemented high level demand generation campaigns and as a speaker on national and international platforms including TV and Radio confirms my ability to spearhead marketing and communications for large organisations. My most significant achievements are my ability to raise funds from a diverse range of local, international and institutional donors to support development agendas of local and international NGOs. I value the contribution I can make however small to changing lives and lived experiences because I came from humble beginnings therefore my ethos is founded on the principles of "pay it forward ". By the way I love hiking, creative writing, nature, the ocean and exploring different countries. I'm a foodie and my dream job would be as a food critic travelling around the world experiencing different cuisines and lifestyles
