About Kari Robertson

In the Social Studies Department at ASD, I make an active contribution to curriculum planning, and have supported colleagues in the preparations and updates to the programme of study. We have overhauled the entire G9 and 10 curriculum, in order to better align the taught curriculum with the philosophy and practice of the C3 Framework and AERO Standards- Currently teaching IBDP History, AP World History, AP Seminarand HS World History. An important current initiative is increasing the levels of local engagement with curriculum content whilst retaining a global perspective. At AISB and WAB I worked in full IB schools, running the MYP as well as DP Individuals and Societies programmes. I also oversaw the introduction of new elective courses covering the History of Medicine and Current Conflicts. As Head of Department at AAS I managed the introduction of two new IBDP courses (Economics and Geography) as well as a new Introduction to Politics Elective- Coach: Varsity Academic Games, I have also coached JV. I support the ASD MUN programme, and have attended THIIMUN (Qatar) and prepared students for THIMUN (Hague). At WAB I was Joint Director of Model United Nations Programme, and have taken delegations from Beijing to New York (UNIS) and Singapore (THIMUN). In Manila I set up the MUN programme and secured places for delegations at BEIMUN and THIMUN Singapore. Over the past five years I have taken a leading role in organising history themed educational visits in Shanghai and overseas to Berlin and Vietnam- I am an Assistant Examiner for the IBO (History, Papers 1 and 2)- Currently I am working at ASD to support the NEASC reaccreditation process. In 2013, WAB the underwent Council for International Schools (CIS) accreditation process. I guided the department through the process, as I also did at AAS. At BSM I was a member of the steering committee and the committee for resources. The programme of self-evaluation provided an opportunity for reflection and action.
