About Karim Dossa

My academic and professional career has evolved over time. Initially, my MBA studies took me on a path towards research related to tourism. For over a decade, I coordinated and managed various research projects and assembled and analyzed quantitative and qualitative databases on behalf of SFU’s Centre for Tourism Policy and Research. My interest in research and associated analytics was cemented through these experiences. I joined the staff of SFU’s Academic Relations department in 2003. Primarily analytical in nature, my responsibilities have evolved to include greater involvement in events shaping faculty careers. I have also participated in numerous professional development courses designed to continually build my intellectual and professional capacities. Collectively, these experiences whetted my appetite for more advanced education and a personal need to make a greater contribution to academic administration. I am currently enrolled in SFU's Doctorate in Education program. Specific themes that I am intrigued with exploring include seeking effective policy and management options for issues related to the elimination of mandatory retirement, identifying workable and appropriate gender pay equity strategies, as well as examining options for addressing faculty recruitment, retention and development challenges. For almost 25 years, I have been actively engaged in civic duty including, but not limited to, membership on the Board of the Travel and Tourism Research Association (Canadian Chapter), multiple capacities within minor hockey and various roles within the Ismaili Muslim Community. Volunteering has provided me with invaluable skills and experience in managing people and relationships, resolving conflicts and grievances, recruitment and training, event planning and delivery, and project management. I am seeking a senior level leadership position that will allow me to draw upon my education, work and extensive volunteer experience.
