About Karin Kee

Welcome to my page! My name is Karin Kee and I work as a PhD Researcher at the Department of Organization Sciences at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. My research centers around the questions of a) why people do not always make their voices heard, despite having important information to share with others and b) how we can encourage them to speak up. Empirically, for my PhD research, I study Dutch Certified Nursing Assistants ('Verzorgenden IG') and, thereby, focus on their communication practices. Additionally, I am involved in projects in which I explore why patients do not always speak up during decision-making encounters with their caregivers and how we can ensure that all care professionals who participate in multidisciplinary team meetings can make their voices heard. In my research, I employ both quantitative and qualitative research methods (e.g, interviews, focus groups, observations, and survey research). Besides conducting research, I am passionate about sharing my work with a broader, non-scientific audience. Together with colleagues, I regularly host sessions on communication and decision-making at Dutch conferences targeting care professionals and their managers.
