About Karin Markides

My personal goal is to enhance the impact of higher education in the 21st century by building on my knowledge and experience regarding the underutilized role of academia in society. The challenges in our society can only win sustainable solutions if forefront knowledge and next generation leaders are an integrated part of the transformative process. This can be accomplished by building relationships and trust across nontraditional intersections inside and outside the university. I have developed working procedures, evolutionary meeting places and infrastructures for transformative development. I believe that the university’s strength comes from the sum of all who are part of the institution, or who are affected by the institution in any way. The key to harnessing this potential is to create a natural and stimulating environment that is centered on collaborative involvement across diverse disciplines and stakeholders. I feel that higher education should have a strong influence on stimulating local, national and international prosperity. This can be achieved by providing an environment in which academic freedom thrives, and learning, diversity and inclusion is paramount. Emphasizing knowledge-based interdisciplinary co-creation with private, public and civic partners will enable resilient solutions. In addition, the academic environment has the ability to identify, explore and promote unexpected discoveries, making it an unsurpassed innovation partner.
