My work involves advising as to how (paediatric) low vision care can be made part of existing inclusive eye health, education and disability-related community programs in low- and middle income countries. My professional activities include the training of eye health, education and (re)habilitation professionals (form community to university level) and caregivers; training of trainers at national level; designing, developing and mentoring new low vision services; national and organisational low-vision-related policy development; monitoring and evaluation of programs; operational research to inform program and policy development; and the development of training curricula and service manuals The manual:'Low Vision Care in Africa: Practical Approaches to Clinical Services, Educational Engagement and Planning' can be downloaded in 4 different languages from It has been adapted for use in Vietnam and Indonesia with support from CBM. I have worked in more than 25 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Oceania for employers including CBM, Light for the World Netherlands, the Kilimanjaro Centre for Community Ophthalmology, Oxfam Novib and UNICEF. I currently am CBMs Global Advisor on Low vision as part of the Inclusive Eye Health team. I have a PhD in Low Vision Rehabilitation and a MSc in Public Health.
