About Karin Wilson

Creativity in action — What do you do when your cut paper hobby takes over your whole office? You call it a side hustle and you open an Etsy store!I’m an artist, photographer, designer, traveler, occasional blogger and gamer.I love to travel and share a good story — preferably in a remote location with a glass of whatever is the local beverage of choice. Since we’ve all had our travel wings clipped I’ve been taking all kinds of paper art workshops through Zoom. When I discovered a desktop die cut machine at my local craft store I saw a business opportunity. I opened a shop on Etsy to sell handmade cards featuring flora and fauna designs — WildWomanDesignKarin. My travel blog at FootprintsAndPhotos.com has shifted to local road trips with sporadic updates. I still enjoy photography and while waiting for travel to return to normal I turned a set of my favorite photographs into notecards. That led to another Etsy store — FootprintsAndPhotos — featuring my photography! The WildWomanDesign.com website has evolved to showcase my skills as a landscape photographer. I wanted to spend less time at the computer and more time outside in nature. This meets both of those goals nicely.I serve on the board of San Diego Book Arts. This is a fun group of artists of all skill levels and interests. The variety of workshops SDBA’s offers is impressive and they kept me engaged and entertained through the shutdown. This shift in focus from graphic design to other creative pursuits has been exciting. In part because I like learning and also suffer from shiny object syndrome — I like trying the next new thing — but also it has been fun to explore less structured design and make art for the sheer joy of it. Besides the paper cards I have made paper sculptures and paper wallets. I’ve played with Gelli painting to add color and texture to some of my paper creations. This kind of experimenting and mixing of skills has been a lot of fun and yielded some great results. And gamer you ask? Well I grew up in the arcades on the Jersey Shore. Besides the great fun and stress release of a mindless game like Pac-Man, a good game is like a great book — you explore other lands, go on quests, solve problems, find treasure, and maybe even save a kingdom! I love the Zelda series.I am interested in sharing my paper creations with more buyers. Please check out my store here: I’m always open to new game suggestions!
