About Karina Dotson

I am a Research and Insights Manager at OpenResearch, a nonprofit research lab, working on a ground-breaking research project to measure the impact of a basic income in the United States. Prior to this role, I worked as a social science researcher at the University of Michigan for the last seven years on a wide range of topics ranging from poverty and crime to transportation and social policy. Most recently, I have worked on research developing an index to measure transportation insecurity and explore its prevalence, causes, and consequences. I hold a PhD in Sociology from the University of Michigan. I have experience in qualitative, quantitative, and demographic research methods, a good command of computer software, database programs, and advanced statistical software and data analytic tools, specifically STATA, as well as survey design and implementation. I have experience with project management, conducting literature reviews, recruiting survey and interview participants, conducting interviews, collecting, coding, and analyzing data. I also have experience preparing, presenting, and communicating data both to professionals and laypeople.
