About Karl Anderson

I grew up in Santa Cruz, CA but my second home has always been the Sierra Nevada. Each June my parents would pack up our 72 VW Camper Van and head to Tuolumne Meadows, in Yosemite National Park until school resumed in September. After a false start after High School, I headed to South Lake Tahoe where I attended Lake Tahoe Community College and could spend my time in the mountains snowboarding, mountain biking, and climbing. From there I made my way to Mammoth Lakes, CA, just 45 minutes from my second home in Tuolumne, to continue pursuing those passions. After a few years of dirt bagging, I became vested in a hospitality career and spent 10 years honing my managerial skills. After some soul crushing customer abuse, I decided it was time for a change and found myself eager to apply my homebrewing skills to the professional world and began working with my now business parter, Jason Senior, at Mammoth Brewing, Co. For the next 7 years we worked in tandem to create award winning beers before crafting a new project in 2017, Shelter Distilling. From the launch of Shelter Distilling in 2017, I have worked nearly every aspect (don't put me in the kitchen.) of operating a successful distilling and restaurant business from cleaning glassware on a busy Saturday night, to distilling whiskey, to providing shareholders with P&L's. As a co-founder, along with my partners and peers, I have my hand in all aspects of the business with the direct responsibility of compliance, fiduciary responsibility and administration. While not classical trained in finance, my role at Shelter Distilling has shifted towards running the back end of the business inclusive of payroll and HR management, tax filing, financial reporting and data based financial decision making. In the past 7 years working for Shelter Distilling, my education has been self motivated and continuous to the specific challenges of entrepreneurship with a focus in finance and administration.
