About Karla Brandao

I am currently a Family Medicine resident physician (PGY-1) at Boston Medical Center, undergoing a career change. I am profoundly interested in the human brain both in the psychiatric and neurologic perspective. My extensive research experience includes graduate level work in neuroscience and a thesis on TBI. I am hoping to gain experience in the industry and explore non-clinical options before I re-embark on my journey to Board Certification. My ultimate goal is to serve the most vulnerable populations in the Boston/Greater Boston area, specifically concentrating on improving health equity in those with mental illness. But for now, I would like to get my feet wet in meaningful and transformative non-clinical opportunities in the academic research realm. I have 6+ years of research, including 2-3 years of direct clinical research. I have several publications and have contributed to even more published materials such as presentations, articles, etc. I am an avid writer, both scientifically/technically, but also creatively. I have well-developed soft skills and speak Spanish fluently. I speak French at the intermediate level. I am highly sociable/personable and professional. I work excellently well in group setting, but am still an independent self-starter. My energy levels are quite high, making me very productive and efficient.
