About Karla Guzman

My passion for Community Psychology, Child Development, and Community Partnerships has emerged from my years of experience in preschool education. I have experience working with diverse children, and families from different cultures, ethnicities, socioeconomic statuses, and abilities. I have been in the field of Head Start education since 2006. My many roles in Head Start included Home Visitor, Preschool teacher, Family Advocate, and Disabilities assistant, to my newest role as a Disabilities Specialist. My goal is to implement a safe, supporting, and nurturing learning environment where children an families feel welcomed, valued, respected, empowered, and have a sense of belonging; an environment where children are allowed to reach their fullest potential. My personal philosophy is that all children are capable of success; with the appropriate resources and support, all children are capable of defining and creating their own success. I want to serve as an advocate for parents and their children in the Head Start classrooms. I will create and promote educational equity and provide support in all domains to children in order to ensure their academic success. In addition, I will create and maintain partnerships with other educators, parents, guardians and the community, to build a support system that promotes and enhances success. I will promote social justice and will empower families to overcome their unique challenges through leadership and advocacy.
