About Karla Johnson

Karla Johnson is an ardent, effective consumer advocate. Through a combination of in-the-trenches practical skills and innovative strategies, she creates the momentum to engage people in the political process, advocating for the advancement of consumer friendly policies at the Georgia State Capitol and developing strong coalitions with partner organizations rooted in consumer education and empowerment.Throughout more than ten years of working in constituent services and advocacy, Karla has developed subject-matter proficiency in the areas of access to healthcare, personal finance and consumer energy. Her expertise enables her to assist our most vulnerable populations, including senior citizens and low-income individuals and families—groups that are disproportionately affected by a host of societal issues. In the last two years, Karla has dramatically expanded her advocacy efforts. As a Licensed Health Care Navigator she conducts outreach sessions and provides enrollment assistance to consumers seeking insurance coverage pursuant to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Additionally, Karla completed the Train the Trainer Program with ClearPoint (formerly known as CredAbility), which instructed her on techniques to help educate blighted communities about building wealth and growing assets. Karla earned a Bachelor of Arts from Clayton State University in Communication and is a member of Leadership Georgia Class of 2012.
