Even though it was benign, I had a really aggressive surgeon who thought he could do the impossible and get it all. That’s when my real problems began. He cut some cranial nerves and paralyzed me completely on my right side. To give you an idea of just how much my life changed: I was a basketball, gymnastics, and horseback-riding athlete before this happened. After it happened, I couldn’t even get out of my wheelchair. I had literally just had everything taken from me with one swipe of a surgeon’s scalpel. I thought my life was over. After a long and very hard journey, I learned how to walk again and found other ways to cope with this epic circumstance. Whenever I was depressed about my current situation and just wanted to crawl into a hole and die, my mom would always tell me to "Cowgirl Up!" so I did just that, which is also the title of my book.
