As a dedicated Resident Physician in the Department of Surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and an Assistant Instructor in Surgery, I am deeply committed to advancing surgical practice, healthcare innovation, and health equity. My journey in medicine is marked by a consistent focus on addressing healthcare disparities and promoting equitable access to surgical care, particularly for marginalized communities. Recently accepted into the Master of Healthcare Innovation (MHCI) program at the University of Pennsylvania, I am poised to further integrate innovative solutions within healthcare systems to enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiencies. My research, under the mentorship of renowned experts such as Dr. Rachel Kelz, focuses on leveraging large databases to identify and mitigate health disparities, aiming to develop actionable strategies for systemic improvements. With a robust background in healthcare advocacy, I have been recognized by various prestigious organizations, including the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons and the Society of Black Academic Surgeons. My contributions have earned me several awards for leadership, community service, and social justice in healthcare. In my roles at Penn and as a Captain in the United States Air Force Reserves, I lead by example, advocating for culturally competent surgical care and fostering an inclusive, supportive environment for medical students and peers. As the founder of "Beyond the Knife," an endowed lecture series on Surgical Health Equity, I continue to drive conversations on anti-racism and health equity. Looking forward, I aim to expand my impact through consulting, speaking engagements, and involvement in startups focused on healthcare innovation. My career is dedicated to not only advancing surgical practice but also to transforming healthcare systems to be more inclusive, equitable, and effective.
