About Karyn Andreassend

I’ve always had two careers in parallel, largely with some sort of leadership focus. By day I work in Economic Development for Kapiti Coast District Council, leading the Tech, Startup, Business Attraction portfolios and developing the business website. I would describe myself as a generalist with a background in IT and professional services, HR & recruitment, client engagement and strategic account management, marketing, consulting, strategy development, education and the arts. I started life in charge of a music department and taught Music, singing, piano, English, Social Studies and IT. I was one of the early NCEA checkers for NZQA. I’ve also run our singing business which operated domestically and internationally. By night, I’m a professional classical singer, chair of DMMF and on the BoT for the kids’ school, and a long term member of NZ Opera where I am the chorus rep. Have done two albums with my group, a music video, performed around the world and on TV and radio. I’ve organised many, many events as well as running a small business at the same time as my other roles. Creativity, conceptual thinking and a genuine desire to form authentic relationships underpin my approach to get things done in service of the community and clients alike.
