About Kasey Obrien

Freelance filmmaker and lifelong creative, you will usually find me voraciously learning something new with a twinkle in my eye. Other hats I've worn include director, actor, educator, writer, producer, assistant, and hospitality professional. I follow where my passion leads me and stay where I feel challenged to grow. My short films have won awards and played in many festivals both domestic and international. My multi-faceted education has taken me all over the world, giving me the privilege of studying in Germany, South Africa, and Russia. I was the recipient of the prestigious Congress Bundestag Scholarship which sponsored the entirety of my Junior year abroad. During my time in graduate school I often found myself in deep collaboration with others, devising generative performance pieces on the weekends. Getting involved with community affinity groups activated my awareness of social justice issues, especially in relationship with cultural institutions. I am a proud founding member of the Astoria-based theatre co-operative The Garret, where I regularly produce, coordinate, and curate theatrical works and sometimes appear in them. In addition to many years of working in film, theater, live music, and education, I've enjoyed occasional bouts of employment in wine-related work. My great respect for the world of wine was born working as a bartender in Chicago and brought me to the vineyards of Oregon. There I worked a summer amongst the rolling hills covered in grape vines, under the eternally setting sun. My winding path is made up of multitudinous, fascinating experiences. It has taught me that I love working with creative people and encouraging ideas to ignite. As a colleague I always strive to act with integrity and intention, leading with an open mind and a sense of humor.
