About Kasey Weingarten

Sustainability is about people, it is beyond recycling and images of rolling green fields. Sustainability is about working beyond ourselves to solve the greatest challenges our world has ever faced. I center myself in optimism, in teamwork, and in creativity because there is no clear-cut formula that can bring together people from across cultures, disciplines, and backgrounds. My mission is to lift up the voices of those who are most impacted by the environmental crisis of our planet through stakeholder engagement, systems thinking, and intercultural communication. Through my education at School of Sustainability at Arizona State University, I have conducted systems analysis, social network visualizations, and future scenario plannings that have given me insight into the wicked problems of creating more sustainable communities. Beyond the classroom, I served as the Sustainability Chair for Changemaker at ASU’s Tempe campus, where I organized both large and small scale events to engage in fostering a culture of sustainability on campus. Additionally, I have experience working with international community partners through my internship with SolarSPELL and through my sustainable tourism development projects in Indonesia and Puerto Rico. I am a published author in the Journal of Responsible Tourism Management for my research on sustainable agritourism development in rural Puerto Rico. I also have experience developing curriculum and engaging with youth environmental education efforts as a Lead Instructor with Rugged Research. I am constantly striving to learn, engage with people of diverse backgrounds, and develop my scope of professional experience.
