Background
About Kat Grant
Kat Grant is a recent graduate of the Indiana University Maurer School of Law with a strong interest in first amendment law, disability justice, and queer liberation. Currently, they are working as an Equal Justice Works Fellow with the Freedom From Religion Foundation doing queer centered separation of church and state work, sponsored by the Wm. Collins Kohler Foundation. During their time at IU Maurer, Kat served a Director for the LGBTQ+ Project at the Maurer School of Law, Student Chair of the National Lawyer's Guild Disability Justice Committee, was a member of the Disability Justice Committee for the Maurer Chapter of the National Lawyer's Guild, and was involved in OUTLaw. Outside of the law world, they also serve as a member of Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access Committee. As one of the LGBTQ+ Project's 3L Directors, Kat was responsible for planning and running executive board and general body meetings, maintaining relationships with other law school organizations, communicating with administration, and planning events. During their two years as Communications Director, Kat ran the project's facebook page, as well as managed the Project's email. Kat was a four year member in the clarinet section of the Indiana University Marching Hundred. Kat quickly took on leadership roles in the band program through their involvement in Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority. At the 2019 North Central District Convention, Kat was awarded the Counselor's Servant Leadership Award for their commitment to service as a chapter president and band member, as well as their continued efforts to promote accessibility for disabled sisters and band members, and their advocacy for LGBTQ+ sisters and band members. At that same convention, Kat was elected as one of the first openly non-binary district officers in the organization, selected to serve as the 2019-2020 Vice President of Special Projects.
