About Katarzyna Ostrowska

As a child who grew up in a family of journalists, where my father worked as a radio journalist and my mother was a journalist at a local newspaper, I was immersed in the media environment from an early age. In 2017, I joined Gazeta Wyborcza, the largest Polish opinion-making newspaper, as a Social Media Manager. Since 2018, my role has evolved into a Subscription Growth Manager, where I managed the acquisition team responsible for the acquisition strategy, gaining new subscriptions, and developing the subscription offer. During my tenure at Gazeta Wyborcza, I was instrumental in transitioning our subscription offer from one-time payments to recurring payments, which transformed the business model. This strategy was recognized by WAN-IFRA with the European Media Award for Best Paid Content Strategy in Europe in 2020. I was also invited to serve as a judge for the WAN-IFRA competition the following year, and subsequently as a judge for the Best Reader Revenue category for the WAN-IFRA African Digital Media Awards and Digital Media Awards Worldwide in 2022. In 2021, I was selected as one of the 50 professionals for the Elevate Scholarship, a program run by INMA and the Google News Initiative that seeks to bolster the news business by equipping emerging professionals with strong media industry fundamentals. After four successful years at Gazeta Wyborcza, I moved to Puls Biznesu, the largest Polish business daily owned by Bonnier Business. At Puls Biznesu, I led a team responsible for acquisition, retention, ARPU, CLTV, pricing, conversion rate, and reducing pain points on a purchase path with high-quality content. I was responsible for the implementation of Piano, a powerful and data-driven platform designed for subscription businesses. After over a year and a half, I stepped out and currently work for Ringier Axel Springer Poland as a Subscriber Acquisition Manager, responsible for Onet Premium. In addition, I am an occasional guest speaker at conferences and subscription events, such as eRev Copenhagen 2019 by WAN-IFRA, WAN-IFRA Digital Media Africa 2021, and GNI Startups Lab Europe 2022. With passion and flexibility, I take responsibility for my team, my department, and the entire subscription business. I possess the drive and ambition that I believe will propel me to become a future top executive within the news media. Regardless of my position, I remain open to new challenges and innovations. My motto is to be bold, be true, and be myself, and that is what I strive to do every day.
