About Kate Atchison

Even as a child I was determined to become a scientist. I was passionate about nature, dinosaurs, and figuring out how things function and interact in the natural world. These days I am passionate about pollinator ecology, entomology, and plant biology, with a particular fascination in conservation genetics. Lately I have been churning away at developing an independent research project (more to come soon!) and keeping an eye open for promising internships and opportunities where I can take some of my skills into the real world. While university gives me opportunity to expand my knowledge and practice discipline, I am always open to apply my knowledge into the real world. I am excited and enthusiastic to practice science communications, field studies/data collection, and conservation genetics outside of the lecture hall. When I am not studying full time as a senior at Portland State University, I am often hiking, and approaching the world with curiosity and an open mind. I hope to one day be able to combine my respect for the outdoors and my genuine infatuation with biological sciences and science communication for a healthy career and life.
