About Kate Chapman

I am a graduate from Missouri Western State University. I achieved a Bachelor’s of Science in the field of Criminal Justice. The concentration of the degree is in administration. I achieved a minor in Peace and Conflict Studies. My degree allowed me to take courses in both the hands application as well as lecture based courses. The hands on application included a course in forensic investigation as well as police photography. The lecture based courses included areas such as criminal justice communication, emergency response and conducting quantitative and qualitative research in criminal justice. I was able to participate in an independent study underneath Gregory M. Vecchi, PhD, that taught skills to law enforcement cadets, social work students, and even law enforcement professionals through roleplay trainings. This independent study allowed me to create a presentation on how law enforcement agents should interact with the autism community in a productive manner. During my time at Missouri Western State University, I was an active member of student organizations on campus. I served as the President of Pride Alliance, an LGBT organization. I also served on the executive board for Sigma Alpha Iota, a women’s music fraternity. During my first full year as a member, I served as the Sergeant at Arms. During my second year, I served as the chapter treasurer and chairman of the fundraising committee. I participated in the Barbara Sprong Leadership Challenge during the spring of 2016. I served as a field team leader with AmeriCorps FEMA Corps. FEMA Corps provides service opportunities tailored to disasters. I was leader of six individuals. I was stationed in Vicksburg, MS. My team and I were deployed to work at the Joint Field Office in Manchester, New Hampshire as well as a Consolidated Resource Center in both Winchester, Virginia and Lewisville, Texas. My team wasdeployed to Leesburg, Georgia to help in the Disaster Survivor Assistance Cadre.
