Background

About Kate Corwin

I began my career as a telecom IT engineer, and along the way, I earned an MA in economics. In 1997 I became an entrepreneur practicing sustainable manufacturing. I became president of my neighborhood association, led the 43rd and Main TIF Advisory Board, and served on the board of MainCor (Midtown KC Now). I worked for LISC and the City of Kansas City in the areas of community development and housing policy. I served on committees and commissions dealing with zoning, public transportation, environmental planning and historic preservation. In 2005 I sold my manufacturing business and I planned my next career to align with my values and take advantage of my experiences and connections. In 2007 I founded Green Works in Kansas City to develop future leaders through hands-on environmental science, outdoor experiences, service projects, career exploration, workplace training and paid internships. I love to solve problems and I challenge myself to see opportunities even in difficult circumstances. I enjoy planning, but I also get a lot of work done. I am pragmatic and value facts and data. I practice direct communication and try to avoid jargon. I am persistent, I keep my promises, and I maintain a sense of humor. I am privileged to have meaningful work, and most days it makes me extremely happy. “To invent your own life's meaning is not easy, but it's still allowed, and I think you'll be happier for the trouble.” - Bill Watterson
