About Kate Dickinson

Kate Dickinson was born in the winter of 1980 in Milwaukee, WI where she stayed through high school. After attending Northcentral University, in Minneapolis, MN, she graduated in 2001. Dickinson moved back to her hometown where she soon married and began serving as a musician in her community and has worked as a nurse since 2004. She loves to tell stories, and has a sharp wit and endless appreciation for wild imagination. She finds inspiration in time spent with people she loves most, and in her first love, music. After years of working in hospice and end-of-life care, Dickinson found herself witnessing the grief of so many families that lost loved ones. Seeing very little in the children’s book market to address this need, she felt the impulse to write a story that would help children wrestling with these complex emotions. She is the author of several short stories, including “The Best Tree Ever,” a story about a young boy and the loss of his favorite tree.
