Background
About Kate Dilanchian
I’m a visual communication designer, design educator, and PhD candidate with a strong focus on branding, publication design, typography, and storytelling. For over 25 years, I’ve worked with companies in Sydney and New York to craft meaningful communication. My PhD research explores whether Australia can move beyond stereotyped imagery to create fresh, contemporary representations of national identity. I’m particularly interested in the role of designers in this shift—how visual storytelling shapes the way a nation sees itself and how design can open up new ways of representing who we are. When I’m not researching, I’m teaching at the University of Technology Sydney and Torrens University/Billy Blue Design School, helping the next generation of designers think critically about the power of design and the stories it shapes.
