About Kate Farrell

I am an educator with expertise in Computing Science, data science, artificial intelligence, digital media computing,'digital making', computer games development and moving image education. I work with teachers, colleges, universities, SQA, SSERC, industry and government to help support Computing Science and data science education in Scotland. I worked with Education Scotland to rewrite the Computing Science curriculum for young people aged 3-15. I was lead developer with the SQA to create and then later update the NPA qualifications in Data Science, and I previously worked with the SQA developing the NPA in Computer Games Development. I worked with academics from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities to write a guide to teaching Computing Science for Early Years and Primary Practitioners (teachCS.scot). Recently I worked with academics at the University of Edinburgh to write 'Teach Data Literacy', a guide for Primary and Early Years teachers (dataschools.education/teachdata) I am an experienced presenter, trainer and public speaker and have presented keynotes and sessions at events and conferences in UK, Europe and the USA. I have worked on a consultancy basis for a variety of organisations including the BBC, BCS, University of Edinburgh, and Creative Scotland. I have curriculum development experience with the SQA, Education Scotland, Creative Scotland, SSERC and Global Kids. I have worked in almost every sector of education (Secondary, FE, HE and Special education).
