Background
About Kate Fraser
I have dedicated my career to supporting the Canadian agriculture and food industry, from crop protection to program management to research and analysis. I have worked in industry and government in Ontario, Alberta, and Saskatchewan in national and provincial scope. I am always looking for opportunities to learn and contribute to the advancement and sustainability of agriculture in Canada. This is what drew me to support the establishment of the National Circle for Indigenous Agriculture and Food (NCIAF). The NCIAF is mobilizing a community of partners focused on reigniting the role of Indigenous peoples in agriculture and food through knowledge sharing and promoting business creation while honouring First peoples, their lands, and Mother Earth. First Nations, Métis, and Inuit have always been involved in agriculture and food and are uniquely positioned to reclaim their food sovereignty and grow successful businesses. The NCIAF is a catalyst for real and positive change in supporting Indigenous communities and people in Canada’s agriculture and food industry to reduce food insecurity. We are developing programs focusing on business acceleration, offering support and advisory services to Indigenous community-owned agriculture business and entrepreneurs. We support business planning, strengthen management practices, and provide financial assistance and funding options. Additionally, we provide training and education programs for Indigenous communities and support Indigenous leaders in their awareness of opportunities, policies, and planning. The NCIAF contributes to the Truth & Reconciliation Call to Action #92. Building a diverse industry is a top priority and integral part of FCC's mandate. In addition, my husband and I recently started our very own farm operation - Twin Acres Flower Farm in the Qu'Appelle Valley.
