At the Play Therapy Studio, we offer a safe and therapeutic space where children and caregivers can explore and express themselves through play-based therapies, in a way that is real, playful and authentic. We engage children and caregivers in evidence-based counselling approaches (Child Centred Play Therapy and Dyadic caregiver child therapy) that aim to strengthen their emotional well-being, resilience, and mental health, and offer the potential for healing and growth in and out of the playroom. Through using play as the primary means of communication during therapy, caregivers and children can work on their unique needs and challenges in a way that can work for them, and at a pace that is comfortable. We focus strongly on attachment, the relationship and support experiences of trauma, particularly shared experiences of trauma. Part of our role is to provide gentle emotional scaffolding, where a child (or child and caregiver) is free to go where they need to, safely and securely. We work as emotional co-regulators in the playroom, which refers to the way we’re able to feel, respond to, and sense a person’s internal state during the play session. We support children to up-skill in their meaningful resource kit, through providing capacity building support around diagnosis or disabilities and also developmental delays. We recognise that the child’s biological age doesn’t always match with their emotional presentations.
