Kate is currently consultant senior specialist at the New York gallery of Daniel Crouch Rare Books,(est. London 2010), and since August of 2016, has also been cataloguer of the Map & Atlas Museum of La Jolla. In October of 2018, The Natural History Museum of Santa Barbara mounted an exhibition, ‘The Kingdom of California’, on the history of mapping of California, which Kate co-curated. Kate has extensive experience in appraising material for permanent collections and temporary exhibitions, for both Insurance, and Fair Market Value purposes. She has conducted appraisals, on both a small and large scale, on behalf of private, public and educational foundations; for booksellers and individuals. With more than thirty years’ experience working in the Antiquarian Book Trade, in most of its reiterations: bookshops, large and small; auction houses; at book, map and fine art fairs; and online, Kate has helped to acquire, sell and describe many private and institutional libraries, all over the world. She has witnessed great changes in the industry, from a landscape over-populated by independent bookshops, to one which is almost bereft of them, and where much commerce takes place online.
