About Kate James

Passionate about business analytics, I encourage students to embrace the technology to generate insights from data. My focus is on teaching and pedagogy, with a particular interest in how technology can be used to enhance learning. I have extensive experience of curriculum development and module coordination with a focus on engaging students with their learning of complex topics. In addition to teaching, I am a Senior Tutor with responsibility for the academic skills development, employability and wellbeing of students on several undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Prior to academia, I was an analyst for the Government Operational Research Service (GORS) with posts at various departments: • Team leader: Operational Analysis Team, Border and Immigration Agency • Senior Operational Analyst, Department of Trade and Industry • Operational Analyst, Department of Education and Employment During this time, I worked on diverse projects such as the development of a value-added measure for 16-18 year olds, forecasting air passenger traffic demand, analysing performance ratings by gender and ethnicity and forecasting nationality applications. Much of this analysis involved developing models, extracting key information from large data sets and presenting results appropriately.
