Background
About Kate Pavletich
My name is Kate Pavletich, and I am a fourth-year Biomedical Engineering student at the University of Iowa. I am a dynamic, confident, and critical thinker who quickly adapts to new situations and embraces challenges as they arise. Through experiences in research, industry, patient care, and the operating room, I have developed a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare innovation pipeline, from concept and design through clinical application. These experiences have provided me with both a strong technical foundation and a practical perspective on what makes medical technologies effective and impactful.I aspire to work in clinical and/or solutions engineering, where I can help bridge the gap between engineering, medicine, and patient needs. I am motivated by work that meaningfully improves patient outcomes and quality of life, and I am particularly inspired by opportunities to address unmet needs in the field. One of my most impactful experiences was during a design project in which a classmate asked to keep my prototype for her personal use due to an injury she was recovering from. That direct connection with an end user reinforced for me how engineering solutions can truly make a difference in people’s lives. At the University of Iowa, I have developed both technical and collaborative skills. I have gained hands-on experience with the design process, using Creo to model, test, and build low-fidelity prototypes of assistive devices. Coursework in cardiovascular engineering and quantitative physiology has deepened my ability to apply engineering principles to the human body. In addition, my role as Professional Development Chair of the Biomedical Engineering Student Society has strengthened my communication, leadership, and public speaking skills, preparing me to work effectively in interdisciplinary environments.
