About Kate S.

I am a Student Services Specialist at MiraCosta College. I assist in managing the operations of the EOPS and CalWORKs Programs, which serve low-income, educationally disadvantaged, and special-population students. I help students create Individual Training Plans, coordinate and facilitate student success workshops and program orientations, and discover student worker talent for hire. I also collaborate with other departments to ensure students have access to resources. I also maintain professional relationships with community partners.I have a Master of Education degree and a Graduate Certificate in Mental Health and Trauma-Informed Care from San Diego State University, where I learned about integrated recovery and strength-based approaches for diverse populations. I am passionate about serving BIPOC, first-generation, and non-traditional students in their higher educational journeys. I have spearheaded recruitment events utilizing culturally competent practices for minority students. I have extensive knowledge of the CalWORKs and Welfare-to-Work programs and federal, state, and district regulations. I am skilled at cultivating and maintaining effective partnerships between college and community organizations.
