About Kate Shaffer

My experience in financial services and associated technology has been pivotal in shaping my perspective on humans and data. Managing a loan modification team taught me about taking a critical look at credit and lending methodologies and the consequences of those choices when dealing with $75-$100 million in high-risk assets each month. Beyond assessing risk and guiding modifications to avoid loss in the portfolio through defaults, managing a team dedicated to helping resolve the most complex financial cases taught me about something more valuable than calculations: the people behind the numbers. From valuing the clients on the other end of the transaction to developing a high-functioning team of experts, the key to success in any role, in my experience, is understanding, valuing, and fostering relationships with people. As a scrum master, this experience in developing high-functioning teams was further honed, and although I love coding, analysis, and numbers, my true passion lies in the people who are represented and impacted by data.
