About Kate Slyker

I’m Chief Marketing Officer with GCI, the largest Alaska-based and operated connectivity provider offering mobile, internet, TV and phone services. Our marketing team introduces new and exciting products to our B2C & B2B customer base in all areas of the state, ranging from Utqiagvik to Anchorage to Juneau. GCI is one of Alaska’s largest retailers, operating in the communities where our neighbors live and work. We’re also a leader in health care and education connectivity and a constant innovator that is on the forefront of Arctic technology in the U.S. I love leading the marketing efforts for the Alaska-born-and-raised business which has grown from an Anchorage start-up more than 40 years ago to a successful publicly traded company. Prior to joining GCI, I was the Executive Vice President of Spawn Ideas, a full-service advertising agency also located in Anchorage, Alaska. Much of my career has been focused in telecom, having worked and consulted for AT & T, Verizon, Alascom and several other operators. I received my BS in marketing and English from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College, and my diverse professional marketing and communications experience also includes work in the fields of banking and finance, seafood, transportation, non-profits and Alaska Native organizations. I have a deep level of commitment to the nonprofit community. I currently serve on the board and exec committee of Covenant House Alaska. I’ve also been a Board member of Providence Alaska Foundation, Alaska Community Foundation, YWCA of Anchorage, Catholic Social Services and the Alaska Chapter of the American Marketing Association. I've also been on University of Alaska Athletics Advisory Board, past Chair for the NCAA GCI Great Alaska Shootout, co-chaired the Mayor’s Charity Ball for 2 years. In 2024 I was named among the Top 50 Women Leaders of Alaska. I’ve also been honored as both a YWCA Woman of Achievement and inducted into the ATHENA Society for demonstrating qualities of leadership and excellence in my professional and personal endeavors and my active promotion of women. I’ve also been awarded “Top 40 under 40” by the Journal of Commerce & Chamber of Commerce. My commitment to my community is no surprise, given the depth of my Alaska roots. I’m a fourth-generation, lifelong Alaskan, and my family is known for its active civic involvement in the state. When I’m not in my work-from-home office, you can find me enjoying the outdoors with my husband and two teenage sons – whether running on the trails, skiing in the mountains, or floating the Kenai River.
