Background

About Kate Sullivan

I am a recent graduate of Cornell University's history department with particular interests in American southern history, monuments and cemeteries, material culture, and museum studies, and I completed minors in English and public history. My senior honors thesis on Virginia's Confederate cemeteries, which are prevalent in my home community, interrogates how these sites have functioned as spaces of Confederate community and as tools of white supremacy. My undergraduate research and professional experiences have profoundly molded my passion for public history, and through them, I have aimed to meaningfully impact the knowledge and experiences of those around me by forging personal connections and lasting relationships. I hope to pursue a PhD in history and a career in academia while also impacting the public's understanding of historical memory and meaning making through nonprofit work or museum education. With research skills and public facing writing ability, I aspire to continually educate those around me as well as myself about the history of our communities and country.
