Background
About Kate Walters
In the summer of 2023, I turned 45 years old, and for my birthday, I got a sweet mid-life crisis! In a matter of months, I-ended my 18-year career in public education -quit grad school (MATFA) halfway through the program -left the high-demand religion into which I was born and raised -transitioned from being a close-minded homophobe to a fierce Mama Dragon to my queer teen -divorced my husband -ended toxic relationships with some family members and friends -sold our home and moved everything I owned into a 10x10 storage unit -moved with my 16-year-old into the basement apartment of a friend -returned to a teaching position only to learn that public education no longer fit -lost my car -lost my dog All I needed to make my mid-life crisis complete was an unplanned pregnancy or a Lamborghini! And yet, with all these changes, I discovered I was the happiest I'd ever been! Packaged with this midlife crisis was an even more beautiful gift: the freedom to be authentically me. And it wasn't long before I realized this wasn't a midlife crisis after all. I call it my midlife glowup. And so, as I embark on this brand new chapter of my life, I do so equipped with the tools I obtained from decades of therapy and self-improvement, along with 18+ years in public education. As a teacher, I taught hundreds of children social-emotional learning skills (SEL) and how to foster empathy, critical thinking, and cooperation through the arts. I am passionate about teaching grown-ass adults like me the SEL skills we weren't fortunate enough to learn in our youth. Our children weren't born into the same world we were, and it's up to us to meet the future generation where they are and to learn and grow right along with them. As a former drama geek and school musical director, I know the power of the arts in helping students build their confidence and develop public speaking skills. I thoroughly benefitted from my experience in theatre, and public speaking is my passion. I love speaking about personal development and using my skills and story to empower people to change their relationships and lives. I help audiences identify and lean into their core values to live with greater authenticity. Gratitude, empathy, and healthy boundaries are my three core values, and I use them to guide my personal and professional decisions. Additionally, I work with people on a smaller scale, coaching them through midlife and/or faith transitions, and I'm excited to launch my coaching business in July! Stay tuned for more. It's been an amazing journey and I welcome you along for the ride!
