Background
About Kate Warwick
I love being a scientist! I love researching new ideas as well as doing hands-on experiments to figure out how things work. I really enjoy being busy and I actively seek out new things I can work on or learn about. My first role was in the diagnostic industry working on the development of Blood Gas Analyzers. I am now working as an engineer doing lab instrumentation maintenance and repairs. I am very interested in the Environmental, Conservation and Agricultural industries though. In these areas there are so many opportunities to work on influential projects and the outcome of that research and physical work is so important. There are so many great companies and people doing what needs to be done to protect our health and natural spaces. To further my education and experience in my areas of interest, I have been taking classes with The Stockbridge School of Agriculture and the Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions (MACC). I also started serving as a Conservation Commissioner for the Town of Acton in August of 2022. Along with that, I volunteer with local environmental groups to meet others who share my passions and to do hands-on work to protect our environment. I would love to use my science skills in combination with my acquired knowledge to work in an Environmentally or Agriculturally focused company. Environmental or Agricultural experience: • Town of Acton Conservation Commissioner - completed MACC's Fundamentals Program • Working on a certificate from the Stockbridge School of Agriculture. • Volunteer experience with OARS - Water quality monitoring of local rivers. • Volunteer experience with Native Plant Trust - Plant Conservation Volunteer (plant surveys). • Volunteer experience with Mass Audubon - Habitat Restoration (invasive plant removal). • Laborer and Farm hand in New Zealand – assisted with farm tasks on a variety of farms. Skills: • Report writing including 510(k) submissions for the FDA. Studies following CLSI Guidelines include: Precision, Method Comparison, Interference, Use-life and Shelf-life Stability, Limit of Detection and Linearity. • Mechanical skills used in troubleshooting and repair of analyzers. • Sample Manipulation (whole blood, plasma and serum). • Collaboration with many departments. I enjoy working with lots of different people! • Strong organizational skills used in long-term studies and projects. • Product Development: Successful FDA approval of three Blood Gas Analyzer models.
