About Katherine Andersen

I was heavily involved in research and teaching in college. I was part of a research team examining molecular genetics from the start of my college career and continued the work up until graduation. In addition, I was approached by a professor who asked me to start a new project and lab with them, and I worked in a organic synthesis lab for one year. I worked as a teaching assistant in the biology and chemistry departments assisting in classes in genetics, general chemistry and organic chemistry as well as tutoring for principles of biology. I volunteered at Henderson House, an advocacy center for victims of sexual and domestic violence, and regularly worked on the crisis phone line. Henderson House provides support for victims as they begin to take steps to recover from violence. I plan to pursue a masters degree in Genetic Counseling both satisfying my passion and curiosity for genetics and being and advocate for people who need support as they navigate unique genetic challenges in the medical community. Currently I work as a Genetic Counseling Assistant and Clinical Research Coordinator at Casey Eye Institute at Oregon Health and Science University and I work at a local winery in the Willamette Valley on the weekends.
