About Katherine Brigham

I am an Associate Professor and Program Director of Cosmetology and Barbering at Eastern Wyoming College with a background in business management and training. I will receive my Bachelors for Applied Science this Summer for the University of Wyoming and will start Graduate school in the Fall. Learning is one of my favorite things in life. As people, we sometimes rely too much on what we know and do not search out enough of what we do not. Teaching is my passion in life and I love watching students grow and learn new skills. One of my students, who was so very quiet and super hard on herself in the beginning, had become one of the best customer service providers and talented Cosmetologist as well, and this type of student is why I teach. Leadership has played an immense role in both my life and career. While attending the University of Wyoming, I have been inducted into the National Society of Leadership and Success. While I was thankful, more than anything I wanted to take advantage of the leadership education and opportunities this society offered. I took the Advanced Leadership Certification and listened to the guest speakers, such as Jack Black, to hear about their leadership experiences. Diversity plays a large role in the college system in present times. Teaching, in essence, supports diversity as a teacher needs to learn each student's learning style in order to give them the best education possible. not every student learns the same, comes from the same background, or has the same views on current issues. It is up to the teacher to learn how to reach each student in their own way in order to help them succeed. The versatility and flexibility to make that happen are what I enjoy the most about my job. A motto that drives my career is,"Each student, anyway, every time." This motto to me means that every student matters, every time, and that there is a way to teach even the most difficult ones, and I will find it. People must figure out how to support each other, instead of tearing each other down. I want to be part of that.
