About Katherine E. Watts

I am an Instructor of Art and Design at the University of Southern Indiana. I also create and practice as a graphic designer and mixed media artist. I hold a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art and Design from the University of Louisville and a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design from the University of Southern Indiana.In addition to my role as a full-time faculty member, I have extensive teaching experience at both the collegiate and K-12 levels. I have served as an adjunct professor, instructor of record, and permanent substitute teacher, which has allowed me to develop a versatile teaching approach that adapts to diverse learning environments.My professional background is also rich in creative and practical fields beyond academia. As a graphic designer, I have worked across various industries, providing design solutions and marketing strategies. I also have a decade of experience in the music industry as a professional musician, which has informed my artistic practice and creative approach. Additionally, I have held leadership roles in the food service industry as a Sous Chef and Manager, where I developed skills in team leadership, operational efficiency, and client relations.Together, these experiences have cultivated a well-rounded perspective that I bring to both my teaching and artistic practice. I am passionate about fostering creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking among students, while continuing to evolve as a designer and artist.
