Background
About Katheryn Travis
I study how systems shape identity. Specifically, I research how education policy socializes children into low frustration tolerance, symbolic disconnection, and emotional dependence—often under the guise of “support.” My current research project explores what happens when well-meaning adults shield children from discomfort so completely that emotional resilience, accountability, and communal identity begin to erode. I want to contrast conventional practices with educational models that embed contribution, consequence, and ritual into daily life. I also teach sociology, political science, and public policy at the college level, often with students pursuing applied fields like nursing or social work.
