Background
About Kathryn Smith
Hello! I'm Kathryn, a results-focused engineer and passionate advocate for sustainable living. I am committed to creating a better world through integrative sustainability. My journey is rooted in a dynamic blend of professional and personal experiences that has fed into my holistic view of sustainability practices. What does integrative sustainability look like? Sustainability is a dynamic concept that continues to evolve, and it's crucial for all of us to remain open to learning and growing together. It involves considering gaps and risks for all elements of our everyday lives - I believe these elements are encapsulated these 7 Pillars of Integrative Sustainability: Natural Environment: Prioritizing the generational resilience of living and non-living natural elements. Community and Connection: Building strong, supportive networks that foster resilience. Physical Movement: Embracing an active lifestyle to promote physical health and well-being. Nutrition & Health: Nourishing our bodies with informed and mindful choices. Lifestyle and Mindset: Cultivating a positive, sustainable and harmonious outlook on life. Life Purpose: Aligning our actions with our core values and goals to drive meaningful impact. Interconnected Impact: Principles that consider mindful consumption and nurture collaboration and innovation toward sustainable solutions. Professional Background: I have an undergraduate degree in Chemical Engineering from Queen’s University and a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with a license in Ontario, bringing a robust technical foundation to my work. My career spans roles in the provincial government and various departments within manufacturing, including Environmental Management, Process Safety, and Occupational Health & Safety (OH & S). These diverse experiences have shaped my holistic view of sustainability practices. Personal Attributes: I am known for my results-focused approach and analytical thinking, I am constantly driven by curiosity and a love for adventure. I thrive on asking thought-provoking questions that inspire others to re-evaluate and optimize their performance in all areas of life. Beyond Work: When I'm not immersed in sustainability projects, you’ll find me exploring the great outdoors, planning my next adventure, or experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. Cooking from the heart is my way of nurturing myself and those around me. Let's connect and explore how we can create a more sustainable future together!
