About Kathryn Witherow

I am an aspiring public health advocate, passionate about supporting infrastructure and policies that let people more easily lead healthier lives. I believe strongly in setting people up for success by increasing access to resources and trying to address social determinants of health. I have worked on research related to the walkability of Lawrence, where I conducted teams of grad student auditors, input gathered data into spreadsheets, and built reports from extant data to present to shareholders about the current public transportation system in Lawrence. I have a history in one-on-one health education, both as a massage therapist and in my current position in a specialty retail store. I've been able to speak directly to a wide variety of people as to their health concerns and current knowledge, and regularly get to try to bridge some of their gaps. Being so active in hearing from laypeople about their needs has deepened my appreciation for social services as well as health education.
