About Kathy Austin

A colleague recently described me as a "Curriculum Goddess" when it comes to English Language Arts and Reading instruction. I tend toward an outside-the-traditional-paradigm approach to learning and curriculum design. In my current job, I am responsible for designing project based and proficiency based learning curriculum to meet the individual needs of each of my students. I am allowed the freedom to be as creative with my teaching as students want to be with their learning. I try to develop coursework that students find engaging as well as challenging within the Common Core Curriculum guidelines. As a university professor, I encourage my students to engage with technology not only to enhance their own learning, but to give them creative ideas they might take back to their own classrooms. To me, interacting with my students is a hoot, watching them grow as learners is awe inspiring, and seeing the light of understanding and the fire of passion ignite within a student's eyes is the most incredible experience in the world.
