About Kathy Barrett

I am a highly experienced lab-based researcher with experience in early stage research and translational medicine. My focus is cell- and enzyme-based assay development, which I have utilized to inform go/no-go decisions for drug candidates in Inflammatory/Autoimmune Disease and Ocular-based projects. More recently, I have studied mechanisms of resistance to single-agent therapies in various hematologic malignancies. In addition to assay development, I am proficient with basic molecular biology techniques, including nucleic isolation and purification, PCR, qPCR, CRISPR (KO and HDR KI), TIDE, WES, and RNAseq analysis using Partek. I have also characterized protein expression/concentration using Western blotting, MSD and ELISA. My favorite, most recent accomplishment was being the first person in my department to successfully develop a high-throughput plate-based BH3 profiling assay, which resulted in a publication in collaboration with the Research department. In my rare spare time, I like to read, write and spend time with my friends, including the furry ones.
