About Kathy P.

Research: Improving weather and climate forecasts from weeks to years My research goal is to improve weather and climate forecasts through understanding of the physical processes giving rise to predictability, evaluating and improving the models used to make these predictions, and best utilizing the information coming from current prediction systems. This involves answering questions about weather and climate with large datasets, computer programming and statistical analysis using global weather and climate models. Teaching: Data driven discovery My teaching and advising is focused around data driven discovery. My philosophy is that students learn best when they can get their hands on the data and make their own discoveries. Additionally, data analysis skills are critical jobs skills. To that end, my classes are structured around learning through data.
